UKYP needs better promotion to broaden reach, study finds

The UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) and the Youth Policy Development Group (YPDG) need better recruitment and promotional activity to attract a wider range of young people, new analysis from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has found.

zThe government-funded youth engagement programmes – which were combined under the UK Youth Parliament banner in April this year – are currently delivered by the British Youth Council and aim to promote the voice of young people at local and national levels.

The Youth Engagement Impact Study, led by ECORYS UK and Participation People, was commissioned by DCMS to better understand the programmes’ outcomes for participants and policy-making.

The study ran from October last year to March this year, and used documentary analysis, interviews and focus groups with programme participants, non-participating young people and policy officials to examine impact and outcomes.
