Trust takes over Bradford’s ‘inadequate’ children’s services

An independent trust set up to run children’s services in Bradford has launched, after the city's council failed to improve support for vulnerable young people despite a raft of critical Ofsted reports.

Bradford Children and Families Trust, launched this week, has been set up “to stablise, recover and improve children’s services under new leadership”, it states, further stressing that it is “accountable to, but operationally independent from” Bradford Metropolitan District Council.

The decision to form the Trust was made last year in response to a report from government-appointed children’s commissioner Steve Walker and following the murder of 16-month-old Star Hobson in Bradford.

Walker had pointed out that during his three months at Bradford, the council had 124 social work vacancies and relied heavily on agency social workers.

Great time to join! First full working day of Bradford Children and Families Trust tomorrow. Come and be part of creating its conditions for success! 🎉🎉 https://t.co/22C9yt1jgG
