The government's response to Lord Laming's recommendations

Ed Balls has announced a 58m six-point plan to transform children's social work as part of his response to Lord Laming's investigation into child protection following the Baby P case.

* The Children, Apprentices, Skills and Education Bill has been amended to bring forward some of Laming's recommendations

* The government has failed to analyse the full cost of implementing Lord Laming's recommendations

* The government's first chief adviser on the safety of children has released details of how his new National Safeguarding Delivery Unit will implement Lord Laming's recommendations.

* Children's Secretary Ed Balls has pledged to overhaul the Integrated Children's System (ICS) in response to the first report of the Social Work Taskforce.

* The government has pledged to revise its statutory guidance Working Together to Safeguard Children to take account of Lord Laming's recommendations to strengthen policy and practice.
