Teaching union withdraws from NI pay review body

The largest teaching union is Northern Ireland has pulled out of the forum that negotiates pay and conditions for teachers.

The NASUWT is calling for the Northern Irish Teachers Negotiating Committee (TNC) to be reformed.

Chris Keates, the general secretary of the union, said: “In the current proceedings of the TNC, very little business is ever progressed. Items reappear on agendas month after month with no progress made.

“The NASUWT is no longer prepared to keep attending just to breathe life into a corpse.”
