Teaching union leaders to step down next year

Education
The leaders of the UK's two head teaching unions are to step down from their posts next summer.

John Dunford, general secretary at the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL), is planning to retire and Mick Brookes, general secretary of the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT), is considering whether to return to teaching.

Dunford will have led ASCL for 12 years when he steps down. Prior to becoming general secretary, he spent 16 years working as a head teacher.

He said: "I've had 28 years in these jobs so I think its time to hand over to someone else."
