Spending Review: Coalition urges investment in support for children from birth

A coalition representing hundreds of children’s sector organisations has issued the government with a series of proposals to support children and young people from birth.

Ahead of next week’s Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR), the alliance, which includes children’s charities, education unions, sector coalitions and community organisations, has worked with children to publish its Case for Investment.

The report urges Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak to use the CSR to improve living standards for the most disadvantaged families, invest in prevention and early intervention and provide support to new parents to “give every child the best start in life”.

The report shows how even before the pandemic, a child’s health, wellbeing and life chances were powerfully shaped by the circumstances of their birth.
