Spending Review: Charities urge investment in parenting support

In an open letter published in advance of the Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR) later this month, 14 senior executives of children’s charities and sector bodies call on the government to invest in high-quality family support to help parents “build resilience and give their children loving, stable and safe homes”.

The letter highlights evidence-based parenting programmes as having been “shown to strengthen family relationships, reduce couple conflict, improve mental health and reduce childhood behavioural problems”.

It cites Centre for Mental Health research that shows every £1 spent on evidence-based parenting support delivers at least £3 in annual savings to health, education and social care.
