Serious case review to investigate Plymouth nursery abuse allegations

Plymouth Safeguarding Children Board is to hold a serious case review following allegations of child abuse at a private nursery, in Laira.

Nursery worker, 39-year-old Vanessa George, is facing charges of sexual assault and making, possessing and distributing indecent images of children. She has been remanded in custody to appear at Plymouth Crown Court on 21 September.

Following an extraordinary meeting of the safeguarding board a spokesman said: "The board has decided that due to the very serious nature of the allegations it will instigate a serious case review. This will be carried out without impeding the ongoing police investigation and prosecution, while learning lessons for Plymouth and the rest of the country."

Parents of children who attend Little Teds, the private day care nursery where George worked, are being offered support.
