
Giving evidence at a meeting of the education select committee, Will Quince faced criticism over “letting down” families of children with SEND over delays to the review, which was first announced in 2019.
“It’s been nearly two years and three months since the department announced the review and nothing has happened.
“Can you explain what’s gone on? We’ve let down many families who have children with special needs and disabilities because we’ve got a system that is not fit for purpose,” chair of the committee Robert Halfon said.
Quince, who took up post as children and families minister in September, said the review had taken “too long” and insisted the outcome of the review and accompanying green paper would be published in the first quarter of next year, most likely in the spring.
