Secure training centre receives 'inadequate' rating over safety concerns

A secure training centre (STC) where poor practice and management led to children and staff fearing for their own lives has been handed the lowest possible rating by Ofsted.

In a new report, following an inspection of Rainsbrook STC in February, inspectors heard concerns from children and staff that a child or adult could be harmed or die as a result of  failings at the site.

They found evidence of poor practice that was placing children and staff at risk of harm and failing to give vulnerable children, some as young as 14, adequate care and support.

In some instances, staff had resorted to leaving children unsupervised and locking them in their rooms in order to take a break, inspectors said.
