Inspectors warn of 'serious harm' concerns at troubled STC

During a joint inspection of Rainsbrook STC earlier this month conducted by Ofsted, HMI Prisons and the Care Quality Commission (CQC), inspectors found that levels of violence and staff use of force are high. Physical assaults between children are common, and children are able to bully and intimidate each other.

Subsequently, last week, the Ministry of Justice announced that all children have been removed from the privately run Rainsbrook secure training centre over “serious ongoing concerns about safety and performance”.

The inspectorates said they have written to the Secretary of State for Justice Robert Buckland triggering an urgent notification (UN) for the second time in six months. Buckland has been given 28 days to respond.
