Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy has announced the creation of a new strategy, co-designed with young people, which will be backed by £185 million of funding - £100mn from the Dormant Assets Scheme and an additional £85mn which will be released in the next financial year.

The funding will be used, in part, to launch a Local Youth Transformation pilot, designed to support councils to rebuild youth services following more than a decade of funding cuts.

Making a statement in the House of Commons yesterday (12 November), Nandy said: “Local authority youth funding fell by 73% under the last government and we know that this presents a significant challenge –  despite the disastrous economic challenge we inherited, I am determined we will rise to this moment.
