Boundstone Community College in Lancing and Littlehampton Community School will close their doors for good in August 2009, to be replaced two academy schools, which will open the following month.
The announcement was made by Pat Arculus, West Sussex Council Cabinet member for Children and Young People’s Services, following formal consultation.
The sponsors of the new schools – West Sussex Council and Woodard Schools – have published a partnership agreement to formally set out how they will work together.
The agreement includes commitments to work with agencies such as Connexions and an agreed way of working to support vulnerable children.
This is a significant moment and a chance for us to celebrate the progress made so far and our commitment to working closely with Woodard Schools, said Arculus.
Woodard Schools owns 23 fee-paying Church of England schools, including nearby Lancing College.
The new schools will use the schools’ existing buildings until new buildings, with a combined capital investment of £54m, are ready in 2011.
