Sandwell makes progress on safeguarding children

Sandwell Council has made "satisfactory progress" in improving its safeguarding procedures since it received an improvement notice from government in November 2009.

An Ofsted report on the authority’s progress on safeguarding said the "trajectory of progress is largely positive" and praised the senior management team for having a full understanding of the "improvement task and its magnitude".

Sandwell Council was issued with a government improvement notice after an inspection of its safeguarding and looked-after children’s services judged its safeguarding to be inadequate.

Ofsted has now raised its overall rating to "adequate" also giving the authority an "adequate" judgment for its capacity to improve.

Inspectors said: "Sandwell children’s services have made satisfactory progress across almost all areas of their improvement plan since the government issued an improvement notice and the trajectory of progress is largely positive.
