Rugby player offers support to St Helens young people

1 min read Youth Work
Greater Merseyside Connexions has teamed up with a Rugby player to help get young people into education or jobs.

Paul Sculthorpe, a former player with The Saints Rugby League club, will work with Connexions Personal Advisers to engage a group of young people. He will write to them asking them to meet up, and will offer a tour of the Saints' club.

Sculthorpe said: "As Saints invest in the future of their new stadium, I think that we need to be focusing on young people in St Helens - because they're facing a tough time right now with the local economy."

He added: "My life has changed drastically in the last few months, having retired early from Rugby through injury, I've had to rethink my plans for the future and look at what skills I'll need in the future. There are opportunities out there for young people - they just need the right support to help them reach their goals."
