Riots panel seeks views on recent unrest

The independent riots panel is urging young people, parents and youth leaders affected by last month's unrest to give their views on their communities.

Chaired by Darra Singh, the Riots Communities and Victims Panel will examine what motivated those who were involved in the looting and violence as well as why the riots happened in some areas and not others.

How public services engaged with communities before, during and after the riots will also be a focus.

Launching the call for evidence, Singh said: "The riots were shocking in their violence, destruction and how quickly they spread from London to our other cities. We now need to take time to reflect on what caused a small minority of people to riot in these specific areas, and what lessons we can learn for the future.
