
The health crisis and subsequent lockdowns saw a heightened use of social media and video conferencing tools such as Zoom by carers, social workers and birth families to communicate with children in care.
To investigate this increase and how it has affected support for children, a team led by South Tyneside Council and Gateshead-based community interest company Blue Cabin will focus on two main issues in the use of online communication amid lockdowns.
The first, called Compass, will look at the role of children in care councils in supporting looked-after children online.
The other, called Time Together, looks at the impact of social media and other online communication tools on children’s time with their family.
