The Children, Schools and Families Committee will look at the provisions of the Children and Young Persons Bill and provision for children in the Care Matters: Time for Change white paper.
The inquiry will consider the government's proposals on corporate parenting, family and parenting support, care placements, education, health and wellbeing, transition to adulthood and role of the practitioner.
Committee chair Barry Sheerman said: "I think there's some really exciting things going on. If that's the case we have got to do something about it, we're going to take evidence, get some input and hope we can improve it."
The committee has invited interested partiers to submit written evidence to the inquiry.
Submissions on the Bill should arrive by midday on Monday 4 February, with submissions on the rest of the inquiry by midday on Monday 18 February.
