Projects share 46 million pounds of funding

Projects that support young people with facial disfigurements and help young people tackle crime are among those sharing more than 46 million pounds of government funding.

More than 100 voluntary sector organisations in England  have gained funding under the latest round of the Children, Young People and Families grants programme.

Children's minister Delyth Morgan said: "We know that a vibrant third sector working in communities can bring about better futures for vulnerable and hard to reach families."

Successful bidders included six faith organisations and seven black and minority ethnic organisations. The Metropolitan Black Police Association received funding for its Young Leaders For Safer Cities project, which targets young people in inner city areas with high rates of gun and knife crime. The programme is equivalent to one GCSE.

Changing Faces received funding to create curriculum resources Promoting Face Equality in Secondary Schools programme, which aims to promote the inclusion of young people with facial disfigurements.
