
Ofsted carried out a focused visit at the North East local authority in November last year, looking at “arrangements for care-experienced young people, specifically the quality of preparation for adulthood, the quality and suitability of accommodation and care leavers with specific needs”.
A letter detailing inspectors’ findings praises the opening of a second care leaver hub in Durham which “is offering a greater range of support and activities for care-experienced young people across the county”.
It also states that most care-experienced young people “benefit from long-standing relationships with workers whom they trust”, highlighting work by the council to ensure care leavers are assigned a personal assistant (PA) when they turn 18.
