Inspectors welcome efforts by “highly skilled workers” at the council to provide targeted early help for children at risk of being taken into care.

This involves help to “repair family relationships” which “is highly successful in keeping families together and strengthening parenting”.

This investment in preventative support has helped to ensure demand for children’s services in the county “remains stable” despite the level of need increasing nationally, added Ofsted.

Inspectors have handed the council’s children’s services its top rating for leadership, support for children in care, help for care leavers as well as for overall effectiveness, following their visit in September.
