Playday theme unveiled

Hundreds of go-kart building, assault course and tree climbing events will be held on 6 August in an attempt to highlight the decline of adventurous play opportunities for children.

The theme of this year's national Playday will be Give us a go! Organisers Play England said the theme aims to show children need to participate in challenging activities so they are better able to manage risk in their daily lives.

Becky McLauchlan, Play England’s campaign manager, said: “This year we want to help children shed some of that cotton wool they’ve been wrapped up in. Challenging and adventurous play is integral to children’s development and helps them grow up as happy and confident individuals.”
