Peterborough and Nottinghamshire set to receive government improvement notices

1 min read Social Care
The government is set to issue two councils with improvement notices following damning inspection reports into their safeguarding practices within children's services.

A Care Quality Commission (CQC) and Ofsted report found that the overall effectiveness of Peterborough City Council's safeguarding services, ability to keep children safe and assessment work were all inadequate.

Inspectors also found a massive backlog of cases caused by a high turnover of agency staff. There were 230 cases waiting to be allocated and assessed during the first week of the inspection, which took place over December and January. Inspectors said this "left a significant number of children at risk."

In Nottinghamshire CQC and Ofsted inspectors listed 13 safeguarding children's services areas as inadequate, including the ambition of its managers, overall effectiveness and capacity to improve.
