Trustees announced that experienced third sector boss Angela McConville will take the top spot.

McConville has 15 years' experience in charity leadership including as chief of the Westaway Trust and later as leader of the Greenwich Foundation - the charity responsible for the stewardship of London’s Old Naval College, the organisation said.

She is also a trustee at the London Transport Museum and has two young children.

NCT specialises in providing information, research and support for parents during the first 1,000 days of their child's life.

Jessica Figueras, chair of trustees at the NCT, said: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Angela to NCT. She is a seasoned third sector leader, and the board was very impressed by her deep expertise in community building, her commercial experience, and her genuine enthusiasm for NCT’s work. Our mission to support all parents across the first 1,000 days has never been more relevant, and we are excited about the next step in our journey.”
