Pacey ended the partnership because it disagreed with the Department for Education over how the programme would work.
Barnardo’s will still deliver the two-year project using more than £1.1m of DfE National Prospectus Grant funding.
A Pacey statement said: “Initial exploration of a potential partnership with Barnardo’s has resulted in a joint agreement not to proceed together on this occasion.”
It continued: “We could not agree some of the project criteria with DfE."
A spokeswoman from Barnardo's confirmed that Pacey had ended the partnership.
Vicki Lant, head of children’s centre development at Barnardo’s, would not comment on the split, but said: “Barnardo’s sees this programme as an important opportunity to help children by working to ensure a good supply of qualified, registered childminders and by helping parents into work.”
A DfE document outlining details of the funding programme says Barnardo’s work will “improve the availability and flexibility of high-quality childcare provision and increase parental employment”.
