Childminding sector split over national representation

As the Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years (Pacey) is accused of failing to represent childminders, a new childminding body has been formed.

The Independent Childminders Social Enterprise (ICM-SE) announced its formation last week.

The group already claims to be the only national organisation representing childminders in government talks about plans to create childminder agencies as set out in the More Great Childcare strategy, even though it currently has no members other than its founders.

ICM-SE's creation follows Pacey's announcement that it would not work with the Department for Education (DfE) on this policy.

Pacey – formerly the National Childminding Association (NCMA) – said the majority of its members are against the proposals and chose not to sit on the DfE’s task and finish group for developing an agency framework.
