Oxfordshire receives cash boost for volunteer youth clubs

1 min read Youth Work
The Big Lottery Fund is to invest 296,000 to increase the number of volunteer-run youth clubs in Oxfordshire.

The money, from the Big Lottery Fund’s Reaching Communities programme, has been awarded to Oxfordshire Association for Young People’s (OAYP) Community Link Up project to create 21 new youth clubs in the county.

The money will be used to help community youth groups with their organisation, training and ongoing support. Three posts will be created to help the new clubs: a project co-ordinator, voluntary training officer and a club support officer.

OAYP county director Paul Lawrence said although the clubs will be run by community and voluntary groups, it is hoped they will allocate funding to hire qualified youth workers.

He added: "Qualified youth workers will be part of what is being offered and the message we are getting from some of those involved is that they would like to put money into hiring youth workers."
