1 min read Youth Work
Overseas youth expeditions have a long-term impact on young people's lives according to research published today.

Rallying Together, a study commissioned by Raleigh, a youth and education charity, which runs overseas expeditions for young people, has found the experience of travelling overseas can impact on young people's personal development and increase confidence.

The Institute of Public Policy and Research (ippr) undertook the study, which examined the impact of the expeditions on former participants from disadvantaged backgrounds.

More than 100 former Raleigh "venturers" who travelled on trips organised by the charity between five and 20 years ago were questioned as part of the study.

The results of the study show that 94 per cent of respondents found the trips has increased their understanding of other people's cultures and backgrounds.
