Two in five think teenagers have negative impact

Two in five British adults believe teenagers have a negative impact on society, according to research by charity Catch 22.

Two-thirds of the public assume that young people are involved in criminal activity. In addition, one in 10 misjudge youth crime by a factor of eight, saying that two in five teenagers are criminals. The actual figure of young people involved in crime is 5.7 per cent.

Chief executive of Catch22 Joyce Moseley said: "There is a tendency in most sections of the press to report the bad things that happen and ignore the good. This has created a lack of trust between young people and adults. Unfortunately the bad behaviour of a few has tarnished the reputations of the rest."
