Ofsted analysis highlights domination of largest care providers

A third of the private and voluntary children's home sector in England is owned by just 10 companies, new Ofsted figures show.

The data, Inspection profiles of the largest private and voluntary providers of children's homes March 2019, says the largest of these providers owns 185 children's homes.

Collectively, the group of 10 companies own 561 of England's 1,780 private and voluntary children's homes, an increase of 18 homes since August 2018, the report states.

Despite the increase, the proportion of homes run by the 10 largest providers has fallen slightly to just under 30 per cent of all private and voluntary children's homes.

CareTech, which has 185 children's homes, owns nearly 100 more children's homes than the next largest provider, Keys Group Limited, following its acquisition of Cambian Group in February.
