Nottinghamshire makes headway in tackling child protection concerns

Child protection services in Nottinghamshire are no longer inadequate, an Ofsted inspection of the council has found.

In March 2010, a report by the watchdog warned that the local authority was failing to safeguard children and young people in the area.

But following a re-inspection last month, Ofsted has judged local services service to be "adequate" with a good capacity to improve.

The inspection found that social workers’ caseloads have become more manageable, joint working is improving and 45 additional staff have been recruited. In case files examined by inspectors, no children were found to have been left unsafe.

The lead Ofsted inspector for the recent check, Pauline Turner, said: "In a relatively short period of time the local authority, and the full range of partners, have made significant progress in understanding and improving safeguarding services within the county."
