NCB receives abuse over racial equality book

1 min read Early Years
The National Children's Bureau has been inundated with abusive emails following newspaper stories about its book on racial equality in the early years.

The book, ‘Young Children and Racial Justice: Taking action for racial equality in the early years’, was published last month.

Yesterday’s Daily Mail sought to portray the guidance in the 366-page book as totalitarianism. And today’s Daily Telegraph claimed it advised nursery teachers to clamp down on the earliest possible signs of racism in toddlers, including turning their noses up at spicy food.

Staff at the National Children’s Bureau (NCB) have since received nearly 40 emails, many of a racially offensive nature.

Sally Whitaker, deputy chief executive of the NCB, said the emails displayed clear racist and sexual content and were incredibly disturbing. She added the episode was a sad indictment of our society.
