
Chief executives of three organisations – including national charities the Race Equality Foundation and Action for Race Equality – have written to Children’s Commissioner Dame Rachel De Souza urging her to “address the damage caused by the publication”.
In the letter, the chief executives state: “While the report gives voice to those arrested for their involvement in the riots, it is silent on the children, young people and communities who were targeted.”
The signatories to the letter say the commissioner's report also fails to mention Islamophobia.
Responding to the criticism, the Children's Commissioner said the research aimed to understand children's motivations for getting involved in the riots and reflected their views.
