The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for young carers and young adult carers will hear directly from those carrying out the role, alongside service providers, parents and other organisations tasked with improving support for them.

The inquiry will examine the impact of caring on education, further education and employment prospects, as well as the support available to young carers and the opportunities for breaks from caring.

It will be led by the APPG’s vice-chair Duncan Baker with support from the Carers Trust. A panel of 12 young carers and young adult carers from across England will act as youth advisors.

Baker said: “I have always been struck by just how much some young carers are taking on. It is our job to ensure that they and their families get the support they need and this inquiry will help us to better do that.”
