Military recruiters accused of glamorising war

The Ministry of Defence has been accused of glamorising war to encourage young people to join the armed forces.

The Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust claims children as young as seven are being subject to a distorted view of warfare that ignores the risks and responsibilities of a career in the forces.

In a report, Informed Choice? Armed Forces and Recruitment Practice in the UK, the charity argues that radical changes are needed, including phasing out the recruitment of under 18s.

David Gee, the report author, said: "It is vital that potential recruits fully understand what they are getting into and can make an informed choice about whether to enlist."
