
Ken McCallum said that almost one in eight people being investigated by the domestic security agency for involvement in UK terrorism are under 18 years old.
“That’s a threefold increase in the last three years,” said McCallum as he delivered an update this week (8 October) on security threats facing the UK.
“Extreme right-wing terrorism in particular skews heavily towards young people, driven by propaganda that shows a canny understanding of online culture.”
He warned that a minority of “anonymous online connections” targeting young people “lead to deadly real-world actions”, citing recent convictions of British teenagers.
