Khan's violence reduction unit (VRU) will lead the rollout of the investment in areas of the capital, as all 32 boroughs will receive funding to deliver local violence reduction initiatives including programmes to reduce reoffending and lower levels of suspension and exclusions from school.
The activities on offer range from sport, mentoring and music production, to employment opportunities. Funding will be split into several projects.
The Summer Innovation Fund will support 16 grassroots and community-led projects serving more than 3,200 pupils. These include cricket, business creation, storytelling, music production and mentoring.
A further 20 grassroots organisations will see investment in sport, and the VRU’s after-school programme will support 3,000 eight-to 18-year-olds through mentoring and activities across London.
