Lib Dems pledge support for disadvantaged children

1 min read Education
The Liberal Democrats have vowed to cut class sizes and put 2.5bn into helping schools to support the most disadvantaged children, as part of its slimline manifesto.

Within the manifesto, Change That Works For You, which was published today, the party states that head teachers will be free to spend money attributed to every disadvantaged pupil through a "pupil premium" in the best interests of the child.

"The extra money could be used to cut class sizes, attract the best teachers, offer extra one-to-one tuition and provide for after-school and holiday support," states the manifesto. "This will allow an average primary school to cut classes to 20 and an average secondary school to introduce catch-up classes for 160 pupils."
