Lib Dem conference: Neets strategy is based on 'flawed statistics'

1 min read Education
An internal row at the Local Government Association (LGA) has delayed the launch of the organisation's strategy on young people who are not in education, employment or training (Neet).

Speaking at a fringe event co-sponsored by CYP Now at the Liberal Democrat party conference, David Bellotti, vice chair of the LGA's children and young people board, said the Liberal Democrats are unable to support the LGA strategy because it is based on flawed statistics.

The strategy refers to Neets as 16- to 24-year-olds, but Bellotti argued that Neets are in fact aged between 16 and 18.

Bellotti said: "The Liberal Democrats will not be supporting the LGA's campaign on Neets until it gets its information right. It was going to launch the campaign this month but now they've had to delay it because they don't have cross-party support."
