Letters: Preventing violent crime

1 min read Letters
The Hampton Trust was recently awarded one of the Big Lottery Fund's 1m grants to expand our work with young people convicted of violent offences.

Jon Fayle (CYP Now, 10-16 September) identified four steps that need to be taken - acknowledging that abused children go on to offend, enhancing support services, assessing for previous abuse, and court reports explicitly addressing previous abuse. These are all elements we are building into Linx as it expands.

I would like to add a step - sound monitoring and evaluation of programmes such as Linx to ensure the best possible services are offered to young people as they try to develop the resilience to deal with their past experiences. This is a key principle of the programme we are developing, so we can eventually build an evidence base to inform any future developments.
