- We already have well paid standards tsars

Can I suggest you might like to run another yes or no ballot about this unhelpful and potentially costly idea of David Blunkett's (Standards tsar to take schools lead under future Labour government, CYP Now, 13 May).

We already have well paid standards tsars: they are called head teachers and they are responsible and accountable for the quality of outcomes of a school that are determined by the effectiveness of the processes that generate the product of a school - for example, learning.

As someone who has spent a lifetime working in education wearing several different hats, it seems to me there is an obsession in this country about doing things "to" schools to improve outcomes - Ofsted of course being the chief villain in this respect.
