Speaking exclusively to Children Now, she warned that some of theGovernment's flagship initiatives could be abolished if the Toriesgained power.
Hughes said: "Will they carry on with Sure Start? Are they prepared toextend flexibility at work? Are they prepared to continue not just ourinvestment now, but our proposed investment in education and servicesfor the under fives? These are the things families need. We want tobuild on them and we'll see what they are proposing."
The children's minister claimed that the Tory leadership would struggleto sell progressive family policies to its members. She said: "I thinkthere is an unresolved battle in the Tory party. The paper is coveringthat crack at the moment, but if we ever get more detail about policiesthen that crack will begin to show.
