As part of its #ValueOurLove campaign, charity Kinship's steering group has asked the Treasury for greater investment in support for kinship carers through the open letter following the publication of the government's first nation kinship care strategy late last year.

“The forthcoming spring budget offers an enormous opportunity to further invest in kinship care and accelerate the government’s welcome progress. We urge you to work alongside colleagues in the Department for Education to prioritise additional funding for kinship care reform, and particularly around the provision of financial support for kinship carers,” the letter states.

The strategy, which was published in December, laid out plans to pilot an uplift in financial allowances for kinship carers to match the amount offered to foster carers in eight areas.
