International Youth Day 2024: celebration of youth-led digital solutions

International Youth Day 2024, hosted by the United Nations, is celebrating youth digital pathways for sustainable development.

The 2024 theme stems from data from the International Telecommunication Union highlighting that three quarters, of young people aged 15 to 24 used the internet in 2022, a rate 10% higher than other age groups.

According to the UN, young people are considered "digital natives" because of their early technology exposure, and are “an essential demographic group in leveraging the transformative power of technologies to address global challenges”.

The UN has encouraged young people to submit their digital solutions to address disparities in accessibility to the internet and digital skills. Those in low-income countries are less likely to access the internet and digital skills, and young women often have less access than their male counterparts.
