Serco, Starbucks and Formula One are among the companies to sign up to a government-funded initiative designed to give 11-to 24-year-olds an insight into career opportunities, through an interactive website.

Backed by funding from the Cabinet Office and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, the Plotr website aims to provide careers advice and guidance through a platform that is familiar to young people, replicating the style of social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

Charities including the Ideas Foundation and the Institute for Education Business Excellence, as well as large companies including McDonald’s, Serco, Universal Music and Centrica are supporting the tool, and government is encouraging more to get involved.

From the age of 11, young people can indicate their career preference, which will be stored in their profile and they will be able to access information and advice tailored to where they live, their age and their specific needs.
