1 min read Early Years
The eight councils set to pilot the government's flagship extended free childcare entitlement later this year have revealed details of their innovative plans for reaching more parents.

An in-depth look at the councils’ plans for delivering 30 hours a week of free childcare to 5,000 three- and four-year-olds is the main analysis in the new edition of CYP Now magazine published today.

From September, the eight councils are to test out different ways to deliver the free entitlement, including offering more care during weekends and evenings, and better matching of provision to employers’ needs.

Other analyses in the 16 February edition include:

Also in the latest edition is an interview with Eleanor Schooling, Ofsted’s director of social care. She explains what the future inspection framework for children’s services is going to look like, and how she wants Ofsted to train more practitioners to become inspectors.

The main feature looks at how multisystemic therapy (MST) is increasingly being used to treat young people with drug misuse problems. As well as outlining what MST is, the feature takes a close look at how it is helping young people in Cambridgeshire, which is one of 30 areas in the UK using the approach.
