The government is investing £140m in cycling promotion over the next three years. This includes £110m of new money, and £30m of previously announced support for campaigning group Cycling England.
The cash will pay for 500,000 10-year-olds to take part in the Bikeability training scheme, which the government launched last year. It will also fund 250 cycle routes that connect schools to existing cycle networks.
Ruth Kelly, the Transport Secretary, said: "Being able to cycle safely is an important skill and I want to give more children the opportunity to do it."
