Half the children targeted will receive support based on a programme known as 'Reading Recovery', while the others will get support from specialist dyslexia teachers.
The success of the two methods will be evaulated, and could lead to a roll out of specialist dyslexia support across England.
More details of the funding for the scheme will be announced next year, but the government has allocated one million pounds to other forms of dyslexia support.
This includes 150,000 pounds for the British Dyslexia Association over two years, to develop its helpline. And 250,000 pounds over three years for Dyslexia Action to run an additional 10 pilots evaluating the impact of specialist tuition.
