Housing revampinspires young people to make positive changes

Purpose: To give young people new skills and confidence by involving them in improving their neighbourhood

Funding: About £8,000 a year, funded jointly by Plus Dane Group and the Liverpool Housing Trust

Background: When the rundown Castlefields estate in Halton was undergoing a major revamp, housing providers surveyed residents. "Local residents were asked for their priorities when it came to social regeneration and a key priority was more positive activities for young people," says Jeff O'Carroll, neighbourhood engagement officer for the Plus Dane Group housing association. This resulted in the creation of a local youth group inspired by other projects such as a young wardens scheme in Liverpool.
