1 min read
The NHS is to renege on a commitment to provide specialist nurses for children with epilepsy, putting hundreds at risk, Children Now has learned.

Most children's nurses are provided by Epilepsy Action. The charityprovides initial funding for posts on the understanding that the NHSwill go on to fund them as permanent positions.

However, nurses for children and adults in seven NHS trusts in Englandwill lose their positions after cash-strapped health authorities decidednot to honour contracts. And almost one in 10 nurses in England as awhole face redundancy, reduced hours and assignment to non-specialistduties.

The full situation will be revealed in a report due next month as partof an inquiry into underfunding of epilepsy services by a group of MPsthat includes Conservative Party leader David Cameron. It will launchthe report in Parliament on 27 June.
